Washington, D.C. – November 13, 2018 – It’s not too early to start planning your teen’s summer. The experience of a lifetime and the learning that comes along with it are at your fingertips. With 30 distinct immersive summer abroad programs for high school students spanning the globe, The Experiment In International Living provides authentic cultural experiences and much more, with two programs that offer a unique, safe, and educational way to see the world with an added bonus: they include equestrian adventures!

With more than 85 years of experience in international education through cultural immersion and experiential learning, The Experiment is the flagship program of World Learning, a global non-profit organization with education, sustainable development, and exchange programs with impact in 150 countries. Students travel in small and diverse groups of up to 16 participants and are led by two carefully selected and trained adult group leaders with additional support from local staff and international partners. The network of support creates a safe, student-centered learning approach.

What Can Your Teenager Experience?

In Mongolia, where horses outnumber people, it’s all about adventure in the great outdoors while being immersed in a nomadic culture. Running from July 1-30, 2019, students will travel to the country’s urban capital, Ulaanbaatar, to take basic Mongolian language lessons, and then move on to lush green countryside for their horseback excursions and homestays in traditional gers.

Not many high school students can say they have ridden on horseback AND camelback from the grasslands to the Gobi Desert, but that’s just what they’ll do in the Mongolia program. Students will also participate in the daily life of a nomadic community during a homestay. Students live like locals and help their host families tend livestock and learn how to cook traditional meals, prepare various dairy products, and more.

“My absolute favorite part of the trip was the horse trek from community service to the ger camp we were staying at for the night. Absolutely loved Mongolia, and I’d highly recommend the trip to anyone looking for an adventure!” – Sophie, Experimenter to Mongolia.

A trek on horseback to the ancient, pristine Lake Khövsgöl, the second largest freshwater lake in Asia, is a moment that students won’t forget, and they will witness horsemanship, wrestling, and archery competitions at the Naadam festival, the country’s largest national festival.

In Argentina from July 2-29, 2019, students go below the equator to enjoy the great outdoors combined with community service in a special trip that teaches teens the benefits of giving back to a community while authentically experiencing Argentine culture.

Students will explore the Chicoana Mountains for two days on horseback with traditional gauchos as their guide, but they will also raft river rapids and camp outdoors while tasting a traditional asado, a barbecue prepared by traditional Argentines.

“Our community service projects such as gardening, painting, and remodeling a run-down police station and the humble school gave me the chance to learn life lessons I will sincerely hold dear to my heart. During the last couple of days, our group and I experienced white-water rafting in the Juramento River, horseback riding up rocky mountains, and camping in cold winter weather. Over the span of 25 days, I learned and experienced a lifetime of adventures. Indeed, it was a summer to remember.” – Laura, Experimenter to Argentina.
