Wellington, FL – April 27, 2013 – Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP) is proud to congratulate all of the Circuit Champions for the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (FTI WEF). The 2013 circuit was a huge success featuring twelve weeks of world-class competition January 9 through March 31 at the beautiful Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) in Wellington, FL. The circuit awarded more than $7 million in prize money along with many other special awards. The 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival Circuit Champion Awards were presented to the top finishers in every division, based on prize money and/or points won.

Venezuela’s Emanuel Andrade (16) had an extremely successful circuit showing in the Junior Jumper divisions and was awarded for his efforts with the Draper Overall Jumper Rider Award. Andrade’s barn, Hollow Creek Farms, was also named Draper’s Overall Jumper Owner and his trainer, Andrea King, was the Draper Overall Jumper Trainer. Andrade had many top finishes in all of the Junior Jumper divisions and finished up with the circuit championship in the Maria Mendelsohn Low Junior Jumper division with Hollow Creek Farm’s Casanova Junior.

Andrade’s long list of accomplishments during this year’s FTI WEF included 14 championship titles and 10 reserve championship titles, won primarily in the Low, Medium and High Junior Jumper divisions. He also won the $10,000 Low Junior Jumper Classic five times during the 12 weeks of competition.

“I am so happy; I never thought that I would win that!” exclaimed Andrade of being named the Overall Jumper Rider of this year’s WEF. “It has been hard, every day you have to be there early and be ready to work, but you have the satisfaction of knowing that your hard work brings results. It is very nice.”

Andrea King and Angel Karolyi trained Andrade and his horses to their great success this season and it was a wonderful honor for King to be named the top jumper trainer for the circuit.

“It was an exciting winter,” King smiled. “I have been leading trainer at the races and leading two-year-old consigner at some horse sales, but this was the first time that I have been leading trainer anywhere like WEF. I am 64 years old and I have been doing this my whole life, so I am pretty excited and pretty proud. It is great for the resume!”

“We all worked hard as a team – Angel, myself, Emanuel and all of the grooms,” King acknowledged. “Emanuel’s father could not be more supportive. The whole thing would never have happened if we did not have such a great team. We have good horses and good people working with us.”

“We are very lucky to have Emanuel,” King added. “He is a winner. Every time he goes in the ring, he goes in to win. He tries really hard and he works really hard at the sport. Emanuel and the people like that are the cover of the book, but it takes a whole big book behind them to get to where they are. He has made a big commitment, he works really hard, he rides a lot of horses every day, and it makes it a lot of fun to have somebody like him that wants to win.”

Additional Jumper Circuit Champion Awards

The Chapot family, of Neshanic Station, NJ, continued their reign with many of the top horses in the circuit despite a fall that kept rider Laura Chapot out of the ring for a few weeks. Laura was circuit champion aboard Mary Chapot’s Zealous in the Spy Coast Farm 1.40m Jumpers and also earned the division’s reserve championship aboard her horse Bradberry. She rode Mary Chapot’s Castellana to the circuit championship in the Adequan 7-Year-Old Young Jumpers. Another horse from the Chapot barn, Robins Twist, showed to the top of the Adequan 5-Year-Old Young Jumpers with rider Maarten Huygens.

“We have been very fortunate to have a good group of horses down there,” Laura Chapot acknowledged. “We have always done well with our young horses in the young horse divisions. Obviously it was really disappointing to have my circuit cut short in the middle, but fortunately I had a lot of really good help in getting myself well again enough to compete the last couple of weeks,” Chapot stated. “I was really happy to get a chance to get back in the ring and get my confidence back and feel like I started back where I left off.”

One of Chapot’s top mounts of the circuit, nine-year-old Zealous, is a family favorite and it was rewarding for the rider to see the mare’s success.

“Zealous has really been a super star for us from the start,” Chapot noted. “She has always been one of my dad’s favorites because of her breeding. She is out of a Good Twist mare by Royal Kaliber, who was on my dad’s gold medal winning Olympic team in Athens, so she has a lot of sentimental feelings in the family. She is very careful and so we moved her up very slowly to make sure that she is very confident every time she does take a step up. We have been very pleased with the progress she has made through the years and to have her so confident in that division I think gives her a really good stepping stone for the summer.”

“My 7-year-old was circuit champion as well and that is a horse that I just got literally weeks before we came to Florida, so that was really a lot of fun for her to win down there,” Chapot added. “I feel really confident with her. I think we are a really good match and she suits my style really well. Our 5-year-old was also champion and that is a horse who had almost no show experience before going down there and the first couple of weeks were a bit awesome for her. She was a bit awestruck by all of the sights and sounds and the activity of the competition, so for her to come so far as to end up doing so well and being circuit champion was really gratifying.”

In the other Young Jumper divisions, the Adequan 6-Year-Old Young Jumper division was topped by Socke, owned and ridden by Alex Granato. In the Adequan 8-Year-Old Young Jumpers, Alex Jayne’s Alanda was circuit champion ridden by Maggie Bracco.

In the G&C Farm 1.45 Jumpers, Wang Chung M2S, owned by Morningside Stud & Torrey Pines Stable was the overall champion with Canada’s Eric Lamaze on board. The Derby Gold Shavings 1.35m Jumpers circuit champion was Cavallo Farms’ Gucci with Ireland’s Darragh Kenny in the irons. The Pennfield 1.30 Jumpers saw victory for USA’s Katie Prudent riding Plain Bay Farm’s Penelope Z.

Fifteen-year-old Lillie Keenan, of New York, NY, dominated in the other two junior divisions. In the Hollow Creek Farm Medium Junior Jumpers, Keenan and Chansonette Farm LLC’s Vanhattan took top honors for the circuit. In the Griffis Residential High Junior Jumpers, Keenan and Chansonette Farm LLC’s Pumped Up Kicks were the circuit champions. Victoria Colvin was awarded the Pin Oak Farm Perpetual Trophy as the high score junior jumper rider along with reserve championships in the low and high divisions.

The Amateur-Owner Jumpers also awarded their circuit championships in each division at the end of circuit. In the RCG Farm High Amateur-Owner Jumpers, Alfi, owned and ridden by Michelle Navarro-Grau finished on top. The Animo USA Medium Amateur-Owner Jumper circuit champion was Windeline, owned and ridden by Nathalie Mathers. In the Charles Owen Low Amateur-Owner Jumpers, Coker Farm Inc.’s Firefly and Philip Richter topped the division.

Newman Perpetual Memorial Trophy for his fifth straight circuit championship in the Don Little Masters Jumper division presented by Horseware. Kessler and his long time partner All That had another great season and earned multiple championship ribbons throughout the 12-week circuit.

In the Martha Jolicoeur/Illustrated Properties Adult Amateur Jumper 36-49 division, Vicki Lowell and Tippitoo topped the circuit. The FarmVet Adult Amateur Modified Jumper circuit champion was Laracon and owner/rider Amanda Gunthel.

In the Paddock Cakes Low Adult 18-35 Jumpers, Houston and owner/rider Rachel Bertolozzi were the best overall. The Paddock Cakes Low Adult 36 & Over Jumpers were topped by Hoolie Hoo, owned by Iron Horse Farm and ridden by Niki McCardle. In the Paddock Cakes Low Children’s Jumpers, Back Country Farm’s Sailor Moon and Alexandra Pielet were champions of the circuit.

The $100,000 FTI Consulting Rider Challenge concluded after twelve weeks of jumper competition with a win for Kent Farrington. Farrington led the standings and earned a $50,000 cut of the bonus money for his success during the circuit. Conor Swail finished in second place to earn $25,000, Reed Kessler was third and received a $15,000 check, and Beezie Madden finished fourth for a $10,000 bonus.

Other awards included the Leading Lady Grand Prix Rider for the circuit, which was presented to Reed Kessler on behalf of Martha Jolicoeur of Illustrated Properties in memory of Dale Lawler. Conor Swail received the Niall Grimes Perpetual Trophy as the Irish rider that earned the most money during the week of CSIO competition. Ben Maher and Quiet Easy 4 were the overall leading horse/rider combination in the Suncast 1.50m Championship Jumper Series. Chloe Reid was the champion of the Artisan Farms Young Rider Grand Prix Series.

The Ramblewood Perpetual Trophy recognizes superior exhibitor/ management relations.  The trophy acknowledges an individual’s unique dedication and kindness to exhibitors of WEF by any member of the management team, and was presented to Tom Cason.

They have come a long way and they have been pretty consistent on the ponies and the horses in the hunters, so they did great. It was a really successful year.”

Kelley Farmer, of Keswick, VA, was the Draper Overall Hunter Rider for the second season in a row. Farmer won the circuit championship in the Equine Tack and Nutritionals First Year Green Working Hunters aboard Glefke and Garber’s Mythical as well as the Equine Tack and Nutritionals Second Year Green Working Hunters aboard Woodland Way Inc.’s At One’s Word.

Riding for Kelley Farmer and Larry Glefke’s Lane Change Farm, Holly Orlando also topped several divisions. Orlando was circuit champion with David Glefke and Dr/Mrs. Kenneth Garber’s Quotable in The Sanctuary at PBIEC Green Conformation Hunters. Orlando also dominated The Sanctuary at PBIEC Regular Conformation Hunters, earning the championship aboard CH Farm LLC’s On Q and the reserve championship with Glefke and Garber’s Quotable.

Farmer and Orlando shared the riding duties on many of their top horses throughout the circuit and were extremely close in the running for top rider.

“Obviously it is a lovely achievement,” Farmer stated. “I have to say that I feel like it is very much shared between Holly and I because we were so close and we pretty much alternated horses all circuit. It is a great achievement and a very nice honor, and I feel like it is both of ours.”

“We had a fantastic circuit, you really could not have written it any better,” Farmer acknowledged. “If you sat down and said, ‘This is how it’s going to go,’ you would not have believed it could go that well. We really have nothing to complain about. The horses are great, circuit was great, and we love having Holly with us.”

In addition, the Champion Equine Insurance Overall Hunter Style Award was presented to Farmer’s mount Taken, owned by Jessica Stitt.

Farmer noted, “Taken has been nothing but a great horse for me. He has so much experience that I didn’t show him all that much this circuit. He didn’t end up with a circuit championship or anything, so it was really nice for him to be honored and get a special award for what he has done. He is such a good horse and he has been so fantastic for us. It meant a lot for me, for him, for Jess and for everyone to get a beautiful award like that.”

Twelve-year-old Emma Kurtz also had a storybook winter in the pony divisions and was named the Draper Overall Pony Hunter Rider for the circuit. Kurtz rode Chatsworth, owned by Victoria Press, to the Autism Speaks Children’s Large Pony Hunter circuit championship. Kurtz also topped the Florida Community Bank Small Pony Hunter division riding Dr. Betsee Parker and Scott Stewart’s Bit of Love.

Kurtz was extremely busy throughout the circuit riding ponies for many different people and was rewarded for her efforts with the special rider award.

“Winning the high point pony rider makes me feel great because I know that all of my hard work has paid off,” Kurtz stated. “Winning this award makes me appreciate all of the opportunities I have been given.”

Speaking about her two top mounts, Kurtz noted, “Bit of Love (Chester) is so fun to ride because he is so brave and comfortable. Also, he has such a great presence going around and he loves his job. Chatsworth (Jock), like Chester, is very comfortable and beautiful going around. He is very athletic and it is so easy for him.”

“I love riding all of these amazing ponies because it really challenges me to continue to improve my riding,” Kurtz added. “Because I ride so many incredible ponies and train with so many great trainers, my riding has improved so much in the past year. Since each pony is different, I learn a lot of new things from each one. I am so lucky to have been given all of these opportunities.”
